Echoescape

The world of perception is a landscape thick with signs of profoundly different origin and nature: do we really know how to grasp and interpret them? What if, in order to better understand these signs, we try to generate them ourselves?
Seated at the piano, the visitors of Echoescape become, as in all Paolo Scoppola’s installations, the real protagonists of the work. Each note, whether thought out or left to chance, is transformed into an echo that in turn generates unique and unrepeatable visual landscapes, just like each human being.

We are what our senses perceive

… what, finally, is a sound that is combined with a color? The knowledge we have of the world is based on what reaches our senses. The thoughts that the mind generates are the fruit of this interaction with the outside world. We are our relationships and our interactions. I thought of Echoescape as an invitation to dare, to become children again and to shed our burdens. Children have no burdens but a lot of courage and an endless desire to discover. So, let’s sit at this piano.

Echoescape is Paolo Scoppola’s work that activates in the audience an awareness of interaction: every human being is first the fruit of what the senses pick up, and only then the result of thought. To stimulate knowledge of the processes that transform sounds and images into emotions and meanings is to increase and elevate awareness of the collective dimension, which is increasingly necessary in a social context that tends toward individuality and individualism.
